Ohio to the Indian River: one long day or two easy ones
Ohio is the shortest northern drive to this stretch of the Atlantic coast. From Columbus or Cincinnati you're closer to the Indian River Lagoon than most of Ohio's traditional snowbird destinations on the Gulf, and you skip the last leg across the peninsula entirely.
I-77 or I-75 south, then I-95 or the Turnpike into Brevard
From Cleveland or Akron
I-77 south through Charleston WV to Charlotte, then I-26/I-95 or I-77 to I-26 to Savannah, then I-95 south to Exit 156. Overnight in Columbia or Savannah.
From Columbus, Dayton or Cincinnati
I-71/I-75 south to Atlanta, I-75 to Wildwood, Turnpike east, SR 528, then I-95 south. Overnight in Macon or Valdosta.

- Rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center are visible from the dock, roughly two or three a month. It's the thing Ohio guests photograph most.
- Fishing is year-round: snook and redfish in the lagoon, pompano and Spanish mackerel at Sebastian Inlet in winter.
- Barefoot Bay, three miles south, runs pickleball, golf, shuffleboard and two pools — the social calendar people expect from a Florida winter, without living inside a park.

Is the Atlantic side better than the Gulf for an Ohio snowbird?
It's a shorter drive and the winter water is calmer here on the lagoon side. The Gulf has warmer surf; the Atlantic side has the inlet, the launches and better fishing access. If you fish or boat, this side wins.
How cold does it get here in January?
Average high around 73°F, average low near 52°F. A few cold fronts each winter drop mornings into the 40s for a day or two. The house has five mini-split units for heat and A/C plus six ceiling fans.
Can I book only January and February?
Yes. Any 28+ night block November through April gets the $3,750 monthly rate, cleaning included.
