It's ranked in Florida's top three snook fisheries and holds multiple IGFA line-class records. The north jetty alone produces trophy snook every summer week.

On the Atlantic coast (that's us): OPEN Feb 1–May 31 and Sep 1–Dec 14. CLOSED Dec 15–Jan 31 and Jun 1–Aug 31. During open season the slot is 28–32 inches, one per person per day, with a snook stamp. You can still catch and release during closed season — many locals do.

Yes — Sebastian Inlet Charity Fishing Tournament (March), Native Rods Charity (April), Melbourne Tarpon Tournament (May–June), Freedom Boat Club Snook Shootout (September), and the CCA Florida STAR statewide series (May–Sept). Pelican Yacht Club Billfish Invitational and Treasure Coast Sailfish Championship happen just south in Fort Pierce Jan–March. Book lodging 6–9 months ahead for tournament weekends.

The real risks are: (1) afternoon thunderstorms May–Sep — off the water by 2pm; (2) lightning — if you hear thunder, leave immediately; (3) jetty rocks — wear rock-grip shoes and don't run; (4) rip currents at the Inlet mouth on outgoing tides; (5) sharks — don't wade above the knees at the Inlet in summer, don't string fish at your waist. Yes — fish-cleaning table at the dock, hose, and a covered trash can. Please rinse thoroughly and bag carcasses; raccoons and possums find them otherwise. Do not clean fish in the kitchen sink.

Absolutely — under 16 don't need a license, the dock has a low rail perfect for kids, and the Sebastian Fishing Museum + Grant Seafood Festival Kids' Derby (first weekend of Feb) are both a short drive. Live shrimp under a popping cork from the dock catches something almost every trip — great confidence-builder.

A 34-inch snook in August 2024 on a live pilchard at dawn (released — over slot). A 24-lb jack crevalle came off the same piling a week later. Most days it's trout, mangrove snapper, and sheepshead in the 12–18-inch range — plenty for a dinner of two.
